Glacier is a family favorite park for us too, and it is so sad. But it also makes me extremely glad that I am a photographer, you never know when you will be capturing something for the last time. I never made it to the Chalet, but we did stay in East Glacier at the lodge there, you just never know...
ReplyDeleteHow terribly sad that this beautiful chalet has been destroyed by fire. Your photos show scenes of devastation. A sad story indeed for our monthly get-together.
ReplyDeleteSo, so sad. The fires in Oregon (where I have family) and in Montana (where they have more family) are horrifying. I've never been to Glacier, but seeing the devastation there is heartbreaking. Thank you for sharing these photos and your memories today.
ReplyDeleteThese wildfires are always scary and truly terrible. We have wildfires every year, two years ago we had many evacuees from the neighboring county where the fires raged for many days. It is terrible and incredibly sad when people lose their homes. I've been to Glacier and love the park, but have never been to Sperry Chalet.
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing the photos and your personal stories of such an important place.
ReplyDeleteYour last photograph reminds me of a somewhat similar photo I took a year ago in Yellowstone. It is devastating to see the effects of wildfires. When speaking about the fires forest rangers are always quick to add that without fire certain tree seeds would not be able germinate in order to grow and that fires help clear the undergrowth. It's difficult to see the good when all we see is the skeletons of well loved homes and trees. But, you are so right in that we need to take care of our natural resources. It shouldn't be our negligence that is the cause of devastation to our land.
ReplyDeleteSo very sad when historic places are lost. I saw on the news tonight how many wildfires there are across western America. It's unbelievable! This area is certainly in my prayers.
ReplyDeleteSuch a huge loss....My son lives in Missoula, and he says they are surrounded by wildfires. In Oregon we've had dozens of fires burning for over two months...and we just had two start up yesterday, one on my favorite Gorge hiking trail and another in a lovely wilderness area that I'd just hiked in the day prior. The West needs rain badly!
ReplyDeleteDevastating fires everywhere in the West it seems. But this is so terribly sad, losing all that old growth and the lovely lodge(s?).... we are smoked in where we live in Oregon, though no fire danger such bad air quality we aren't supposed to spend time outside. plus a hurricane watch for the area in Florida where we spend the winter... kind of feels like Armageddon .
ReplyDeleteAnother sad story of wild fires in USA. It is sad to see that beautiful old chalet destroyed.
ReplyDeleteIt is a sad time here in the Northwest, with fires raging everywhere it seems, and no end in sight. It's the worst fire season I can remember, and I've lived here all my life. This week we've had smoke-filled days and ash fall from the fires in the Cascades, and we're 25 miles from the closest fire. We were at Mt. Rainier last weekend, and now the park is being threatened. So many places I love are on fire, so very difficult to take. My heart goes out to everyone being threatened, and pray daily for rain, a lot of rain.
ReplyDeleteNational Park in the US are great.
