PART 3 OF TWENTY QUESTIONS

Question 11) WHY DO I BLOG?
When I first started out with my blog, I had recently started getting really interested in photography, and just wanted a place to share some of my photos. I was taking so many, that my husband really started looking askance at me when I kept calling him over and over to "look at a photo.  So initially, I just wanted a place to post some of my favorite photos. Now though, it is so much more than this.  It has been so much fun meeting people from the international community, and seeing photos and hearing ideas from so many people.  I have also loved the real concern that people develop for others, sometimes in other parts of the world, who they have never even met. It is wonderful seeing the amazing creativity , and the real sense of community amongst bloggers.  Blogging has also been, for me such a learning experience. I am constantly encouraged to GET OUT and do things that I have not had any thoughts of doing before. Every day, I am anxious to go find some new subjects. Have also learned so many new things about processing my photos.  Anyway, these are just a couple of reasons, and there are many more.                12)  WHAT IS MY FAVORITE BOOK? Have to say that I LOVE READING!  Every since I was a little girl and first learned to read, I have read all of the books that I could get my hands on.  I literally have thousands of books in my house, and some of them I have had for 40 years, and still look at occassionally. One example of that would be The Prophet by Khalil Gibran.  Out of all of the books that I have ever read though, I have to say that my very favorite is my Bible. It is truly a book that I never tire of, and it is always comforting to me when I need it, a great learning tool for me in helping me know where I am heading and what my goals are. As much as I love so many books, if I had to go to an island with only one book, I have to say that it would be my Bible.
13) WHEN WAS THE LAST TIME THAT I CRIED

Just a few months ago, my niece  who had breast cancer which had advanced came home from her latest treatment on hospice. I took a leave of absence from my job to go and take care of her.  Truly, it was a very moving experience for me. She lived in  a tiny town in the midwest, and it was so touching to me that in her last days, there were a thousand hands to help with every need.  There was just no end to the help and support. It was very moving to me to see how many people loved her, and also that every day, she had a smile on her face. There were many very moving moments that brought me to tears. Most of the time, this was very private,as I was there to provide strength and my expertise to her and to her immediate family. Although this was such a hard situation, it was so obvious that God was there in our midst supporting all of us.
These smiles were even present the  night before she died.  I am not usually a person who cries often, but this definitely was a time that was very moving, and brought me to tears more than once.

14) WHAT IS SOMETHING THAT I ACCOMPLISHED THAT I NEVER EXPECTED TO DO?
I would have to say that this was my getting my masters degree over 20 years ago.

After I became a nurse, there was a lot of controversy in the medical community about which "degree plan " was the best for nursing.  I originally went to school in a hospital diploma program, and I  was very firm in my own mind that this was the best progam as it brought more actual patient experience to the student that a degree plan. When I had been in nursing for 18 years, I originally decided to go back to school for a music degree, but as I progressed in school, my love of nursing won out, and finished my BSN.  That was quite a struggle in itself with 2 daughters , a home , and a job, but then, after some heart searching, I decided to continue on and get my Master's Degree so I could become a Nurse Practitioner. It was a very difficult program, and practically every day that i was in it , I thought it was something I just could not do.  Amazingly though, I did finish, and not only did I finish, but I finished top in my class.   Something I never thought I could, or would be able to do.15) WOULD I LIKE TO BE A PIRATE?
Well I do love to travel......... quite a lot...... And I am leaving on a cruise in a week.... you figure it out...16) WHAT ARE MY PET PEEVES?
I have a few, and probably my biggest ones revolve around seeing people who are less advantaged treated in a demeaning manner. It is something that I just can't tolerate.
I also hate it when someone drives up way to close to my car when I am driving. Especially if I am already going over the speed limit .  Really irritates me.
 17) WHAT ARE MY FAVORITE SMELLS? I do love the smell of fresh bread baking. Nothing quite like it.  I also love coming home from church and smelling a roast, potatoes and carrots cooking. When I was a little girl, my mother always put a roast in the oven before we left for church, and that smell really brings me back to that time of my life which is very precious to me.

So enough for today, and will save the last installment on this fun assignment for another day!

  2. Lovely, lovely post. What a beautiful, but sad experience for you and your precious niece. What a gift it must have been for you to spend that time with her and her family. I remember reading your posts about this experience. And I am with you on the pot roast with carrots and potatoes...my Mom did that alot on the weekends.
