Ghosts of the Past

Am linking today with a new ( for me) blog link called  EDIT ME.   Saw this blog link posted today on a friends blog, and when I saw  the photo for the week to edit, knew i had to give it a try or two.  Immediately when I saw this old castle from Scotland, a book that I love immediately came to my mind. That book is MARY QUEEN OF SCOTLAND AND THE ISLES  written by Margaret George. Now I am a real afficiondo of historical fiction, and this is a book that I read first when i was about 15 and loved it.  So when I saw this photo of an ancient castle in Scotland, I thought of this queen who lived for many years of her young life imprisoned at Holyrood Castle. Having never been to Scotland except as a mental traveler, this looked to me as if it might be a very good substitute.  Also have a fellow blogger, Bonnie at Pixel Dust who does some awesome textures that are very "art friendly",  and thought of a new line of textures that she has just developed that to me at least, look very much like ghosts of the past which can be superimposed on other photos.  The two textures that I used are Over the ocean, and The Gift from Pixel Dust.   So I immediately got to work on these and did three different renditions of this photo, edited, and had alot of fun doing it.  Two of these, in my mind represent this lonely and imprisoned queen whose spirit might well hover over this past castle.   The third photo I did in a "painterly fashion" using textures from Kim Klassen.  Am chosing my husbands favorite of the three to showcase here.Edit Me

  1. I just had to come and have a look at the castle you were editing. It sure is a stunning castle - I must find out where it is. I love visiting castles now.
You have done a great job with it. I think my favourite one is the last one. It looks kind of cold and eerie with the ghostly figure in it.
    Good work.

  2. Since you like your history Jeanne I though I might add that Mary Queen of Scots spent part of her honeymoon here though it was James VI King of Scotland known also known as James I King of England who was held hostage at this castle.

Great use of the texture on the image and my favourite is your 2nd edit.

  3. I'm so glad you joined in, Jeanne! I love what you did in all three photos, but I especially love the last one with the "ghostly girl" silhouette. Wonderful effects! I would love to visit Scotland one day.
